Introduction to Business

Strategic Information Management

Robert D. Galliers - Personal Name; Dorothy E. Leidner - Personal Name;

As with the first three editions, this fourth edition of Strategic Information Management:
Challenges and Strategies in Managing Information Systems aims to present the many
complex and inter-related issues associated with the management of information systems in
and between organizations. The primary audiences are M.B.A. or other Master’s level students
and senior undergraduate students taking courses in the management, organizational,
and/or strategic implications of business information systems. Students embarking on
research in this area should find the book of particular help in providing a rich source of
material reflecting recent thinking on many of the key issues facing executives in managing
information systems and getting the most out of the information technology investment—
whether these issues relate to the strategy process, organizational and/or governance issues,
or dealing with such phenomena as privacy and security, and outsourcing/offshoring. And
while this fourth edition retains some of the key chapters from the previous edition, it introduces
no fewer than 18 new chapters, and presents something of a departure in that its
organizing framework has been changed. There are four parts to the book, as before, but this
time we start with conceptual foundations, move on to the different aspects—or components—
of information systems strategy, and then deal with management considerations,
before focusing on the current challenges in managing information systems. Figure 0.1
illustrates the book’s structure and contents
